Hey everybody! Get ready for another edition of Under the Covers. So, so excited for today's interview with one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE authors, Lauren Blakely. She's the author of Mr. O and other amazing romantic comedies. Enjoy!
Fiona Blake: What writers inspire you?
So very many! Currently, some of my favorite writers are Samantha Beck, Melanie Harlow, Emma Chase and Christina Lauren. I also love Gayle Forman, Stephanie Perkins, and Sophie Kinsella.
Lauren Blakely: How do you incorporate your life into your books?
My dogs often appear in my books :) And more broadly, some of the character quirks and idiosyncrasies come from people I know, and I often pay attention to good jokes or funny lines and incorporate them where they fit.
Fiona: How do you develop your ideas?
Lauren: I draw my greatest inspiration from movies and TV shows. I LOVE visual entertainment and many of my books have been inspired from pieces of movies and TV. For instance, the debt the heroine in NIGHT AFTER NIGHT had to pay off was inspired by Rosie Perez’ situation in WHITE MEN CAN’T JUMP, while the idea of executive card games in that story came from the Sopranos. Likewise, The Sapphire Affair was inspired by my
favorite heist movies, from Ocean’s Eleven to The Italian Job to How to Steal A Million.
I write every day.
Fiona: What is the best sentence you’ve ever published?
Lauren: "My dick is fucking awesome." -Big Rock
OK fine, maybe it's a little crass! But it's a sentence that made readers laugh and made them sit up and take notice of my romantic comedies.
Fiona: What exciting projects do you have in the works?
Lauren: I’m releasing my next standalone rom-com, WELL HUNG, on Sept. 12. That follows BIG ROCK and MISTER O, both of which released this year. WELL HUNG is hot, hilarious and romantic! And 100% all-male POV! On October 17, I'll release the sexy, swoony rom-com THE SEXY ONE, which is first-person, dual-POV and is a forbidden love between a single father and his young daughter's nanny.
Stay tuned for WELL HUNG! The hot & hilarious standalone rom-com is
coming on Sept. 12! http://laurenblakely.com/wellhung
